Furthermore, it was a one-off. It's not on the box or the arimaa.com home page. Omar likes to experiment, and it seemed like a good idea at the time he wrote it. :)

Well, that's a relief. I can appreciate the humor, but it seems to me that it doesn't quite belong in the info section. Someone coming here to learn what Arimaa is isn't going to get the right impression.

I've been hoping Omar or someone with more authority over the game would remove that silly sumo story from the Arimaa BGG description section. As it does give the wrong impression.

I think the description on the box is quite suitable.

BGG "belongs" to users, not to designers. If it's not seen by the community as a good / helpful description, it should definitely be changed. I'd do it from my box if I didn't have a six month old sleeping in my arms. I never saw this silly new description until today. It's ridiculous; out it goes!

And it's not as if the humorous story has to be lost. It can always be posted in a thread here for people to enjoy.

BTW, I finally got around to posting pictures of my custom designed Arimaa set. I used an abstract geometric design (which I feel in general is more suited to abstract games), that makes it instantly obvious which pieces outrank which others.
