Bought this game recently, had heard it was a light, fun, family-type game. Since I'm a geography/cartography nerd, and spent last summer backpacking through Europe, I thought it would be great as a light diversion.

Played it for the first time last Sunday, and didn't see the appeal at all. A few things that I thought were very strange:

1. It seemed that almost no matter what two countries you chose, all the players payed almost the same. In one round, all 4 players paid -exactly- the same, after having gone through all 4 countries. One player decided after half the game or so to not even look at the country cards, just slap them down in random places, and he wasn't far from winning in the end.

2. The added cost of placing next to the travelled countries was almost always offset by needing to cross only one border. In one round one player placed 2 different countries next to each other (an extra cost of 60), yet still ended up paying the same as the rest of us, since the countries he chose were so much closer to the target countries.

Are the end scores supposed to be within 10-20 of each other? I didn't exactly have high hopes for the game, but I hoped it would be a more complex/involved game in the ilk of the 10 Days series.

I was highly frustrated by the choices not really mattering at all, and would like to know whether others have experienced the same thing.
