Nice comparison. Finaly someone, who doesn't "trash" Civ :). I completely agree with the "victory points are in nearly all games", so nice with a game that is different there. Even if CoC might be accesable to more people with less complicated rules. But I think the two games are different enough for me to enjoy both, so I'm sure to get this one too - it sounds great :). And it is one that can be played at a regular game night (under 4 hours), which is why Civ has such a hard time getting to the table for me. At least the first plays are too long, so that has scared many people away.

I haven't played CoC yet, but just wondered about the "only trading in Civ". From reading the rules you can find here, CoC has that too (p.14). Seems to work like the trades in Settlers of Catan in that you can only trade with the active player (and he can of course then trade with all players).
