My wife and I have been fans of Carcassonne for a while now. We play with hands of three tiles. We only own and use one expansion, Inns and Cathederals.

I recently purchased "The Plague" from a BGG seller, but we have yet to mix it in to our games. I am a huge fan of A Distant Mirror by Barbara Tuchman, and "The Plague" just struck a nerve, I guess.

But quite honestly the number of expansions for this game just leaves me cold. It seems like a mountain of byzantine twists and turns that could do nothing but ruin a perfect game.

Also, figures other than meeples in the game bother me. I just don't like the idea of different wood cuts representing different figs--it seems to screw with the quiet melody that is the game.

I don't know. If I do try other expansions other than "The Plague," they will be the ones that don't introduce new figures (I know the plague comes with fleas), just new tiles. "Crop circles" looks interesting. Maybe "The River."

So are most Carcassonne fans owners and players of multiple expansions?
I own pretty much every expansion. When I play, I usually mix 1 (or 2 smaller) in with the base game.
