If you know for a fact that you will enjoy Pandemic, then get both now. On the Brink provides some "essential" additions to the game, including smaller pawns, additional roles, a fixed Operations Expert, more special event cards, and although it has no impact on gameplay, the petri dishes. Mix these things in and just forget about the Virulent Strain, the Mutation Challenge, and the Bio-Terrorist that the expansion brings for now. Enjoy the base game with the additional components, honestly it's my favorite way to play. I don't think that the base game is "broken" in any way (aside from the weak Operations Expert), but the expansion is just so good that you really have no reason not to get it.↧
