I’ve had some relative success using chaos magicians in r4 dig games recently - twice recently I’ve out dug halflings in those rounds, coming first and (close) second overall. I think that can work very well if you get your engine going quickly.

Huh, interesting. I don't think I've ever seen the CM do that, so I wasn't aware many of their digging upgrades could be part of that strategy. I just find sometimes with Chaos Magicians if the final round is something like SH/SA there may be lots of leftover resources and not much to do with them.

I'm also just kind of surprised that can work. Witches I understand--they can easily get lots of early dwellings out and that can lead to plenty of workers with which to dig in R4. They also don't need to invest a bunch of early coins into a SH if they don't want to.

Chaos Magicians I just have a lot harder time understanding how they would get that to work. They start behind a dwelling, limiting worker production. They also spread out slower given they can only expand from one point, not two. They need to invest their early economy into the SA taking up pretty much all the starting resources.

If you have an example or several, please share. I'd be curious to see what that looks like.
