This sounds great. I will definitely try it out as the normal game is too simple for my 6 year old.

For scaling to 2 players you could remove the dice tiles, or flip the dice tiles when used. They don't come back until all the dice tiles are flipped. Maybe also remove a dog. Maybe also only use 2 hut piles.
