It’s always easiest to learn a game if someone is teaching it to you.
That is far from true. There are any number of people who are just bad at teaching games. Well, both is true: it's much easier to learn from a qualified teacher, but very bad to (try to) learn from a bad teacher. My general experience is that a mediocre explanation of a game still beats reading the rules.Eh... I've been taught games by people who had a rule wrong and it didn't make logical consistent sense with other rules in the game. When I questioned the contradiction they backtracked, then reverted to their original position, then finally stopped to reread the rulebook. Even after rereading it, they weren't clear on what the rule was. I asked to look at the rules and after reading the paragraph immediately understood what the rule was and why they had gotten confused. In no way was them "teaching" me the game an "easier" experience than just reading it myself.
