Thanks for the suggestion on this! I just did the same thing, and it works like a charm.A few things I noticed:
1) The U.S. Size washers are 1.5"
2) A particularly hard flick can send a planet flying off the washer, so I put another grippy rubber pad on the top of the washers for the planet to sit on.
3) To help the ships glide better, I applied Rain-X to the plastic. It's now possible to shoot from one corner to the other without trouble. Downside is that the washers don't stay put quite as well, but they only slide a little bit, so it's not bad.
