The CoB player boards are indeed very thin. I solved this by laminating them all. They are now quite sturdy.The tiles are just slightly thinner, but are very much playeable and they glossy surface does not rip off (unlike several chits from old wargames I own).
CoB is after all a relatively cheaper game, and I believe you will get a return of investment if you get to enjoy it.
