I think the whole alpha player syndrome is decreased because you can't make GENIUS plans, like when some players starts with of I'll do x, and next turn you do y, and then he does z, and then, etc, etc, and it's really obvious to everyone that it is an awesome plan, that's how it becomes a one player affair, i.e the smartest player makes the choices (rather than the one who shouts loudest). The decisions here are fairly instant and thanks to random events quite unpredictable so unless they make a really dud decision it's much less likely to be questioned. In pandemic you may often hear - "no you CAN'T do that, cause you need enough actions left to give me x so i can do b", here, it's more like, we need x,y and z THIS turn, so as long as you're doing something to get some, it's not crucial how you do it.,,
