Been playing this a fair bit recently, not sure if other gamers really "think" about stuff like this - just posting for fun. Here is a wish list of improvements...1. Re-designed board : at the moment it seems about right for maybe two players but for more players it's very much like "what's going on over there?" and having to reach massively across the board to put your placement, or not being able to read the improvement cards. I feel the board could be more "compact", maybe removing the card placements at the bottom to make it so you're closer to the gaming board. I'm sure you might not NEED the inventions side as you could just manage the cards and play them between the players like other items - that would save space too, I prefer having the focus on the map itself and have that being more central for more immersion as the invention side "feels" like it's too big - maybe that's jut me! Doesn't affect game play itself mind..
2. Roaming Creatures : feel the mechanics of roaming creatures would possibly make the board more "alive" rather than simply placing on a hunting "space" to hunt.
3. Specific events : each scenario should have specific event cards shuffled in to give it more distinction between other scenarios. I guess this could be achieved by actually writing special event cards for each scenario, or by splitting the events current into "beast", "weather", "intrigue", "personal", "ghosts" and drawing a certain number of each for the scenario. So for example in "cursed island" you may include 8 ghost events + x others, to really make it feel very different from a survival mission where you should weigh it toward having more weather and beast events instead..
As I said just a bit of fun and fingers crossed the designer may consider some for 2nd edition !!
