Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, are we talking about the Starting Player in Round 1? You do know that the original starting player isn't likely to be the starting player for the rest of the game, or even in Round 2, right?
If that's what we are talking about, I think the answer is a flat no, being the original starting player is not overpowered. For some statistics on the matter, check this out: http://play-agricola.com/forums/index.php?topic=1198.0 . The stats are pretty old, and the sample size could be much larger now. Maybe I'll ask Chris to rerun it.
