Agricola is definitely one of those games where "I think I've found a degenerate strategy" is almost always answerable by "The people you are gaming with are subject to groupthink." If your opponents don't take advantage of the opportunities available to them, then of course you'll be in a strong position. But the counter is simply for your opponents to play better, to recognize the value of the actions they're taking and to correctly prioritize their options.I'm not saying that the game is perfect, and it certainly has some odd unintuitive aspects -- especially how weak plowing and sowing is in the early game -- but I've yet to see a "I just do this and I win every time" strategy hold up.
