I managed to get another game in with some non-gamer friends. 4 of us total. It went down extremely well. I was a bit dubious of the coin flip mechanism, but twice in last night's game it created a distinct point of tension and press your luck. These moments were the highlight of the game.So the two newcomers came in first and second, first going to the aforementioned non-gamer! I managed third, though a flip of someone else's coin might have handed me second.
I can see now that players who aren't as skilled can mess with others plans by making sub-par strategic decisions. This hurt me, but the game is fairly short and so much fun I expect that won't be too much bother. The name of the game last night was conversational fun. I still hold out hope that this can be a pure strategic slugfest, but right now it's sitting as a light-medium strategy/chaotic slugfest.
I hadn't planned to pick that game to play at all (again, because the other two players aren't gamers), but my wife, who is extremely gamer-light, decided it was our best choice to my surprise.
Worth pointing out that the theme does come through and is what sold the one who was most dubious (the person who won!).
