I always love to try the boradgame with Civilization although I have yet owned one. When I heard about Clash of Cultures, I was excited.Last week, finally had a chance to read the rulebook. My first impression after that was "hey, that's a good one and will be in my to-buy list".
However, yesterday before sleeping I thought how this game mechanism worked, somehow, I felt it missed something. I cannot exactly speak out what the "issue" is...
I guess I could not see this CoC having a very strong civilization characteristics compared to Sid's Civ or Through The Ages. e.g. the game engine, can be easily re-themed(or re-packaged) as the new settlers finding the new land, or the conflict b/w European kingdoms in the middle age.
What exactly it is missing? I don't know, may be the uniqueness of the individual civilization (I remember and understand that the designer has already mentioned that tagging the specific civilization, like Sid's Civ, does, will limit the strategies).
Still, it could be an excellent game. As a civilization game it is somehow lack of the bridge between the game on the table and the real world (similar to Pocket Civ)
Is it just me?
