There are already plenty of other games that offer diverse pre-packaged civilizations. The most recent Civilization: The Boardgame is a fine example, and a fine game. But I personally am more excited to play Christian's design. I like the idea of each player developing their culture and strategy based on the state of the game-world and player interaction. This is how real cultures develop: the limitations and resources within a culture's environment influence the direction of cultural evolution.
