Pasting the following into a 3.5 inch column in a word processor, printing, and trimming to size will create a feasible alternate you can place over the original text and affix with a single piece of scotch tape along top. When you need the original text for "Following the Fearful Captain", all you have do is flip it up!2335

As you travel along the outskirts of the (insert terrain type) you come to a village. As you are interacting with one of the village guards, he begins to stare off into the distance. Suddenly, spotting some far off sight, his face pales and he begins to make unusual signs and gestures with his hands. You figure it cannot hurt to follow suit and imitate him the best you can. Apparently the evil has been warded off as nothing else happens. (S1)

As you travel along the outskirts of the (insert terrain type) you come to a village with a feeble, but manned defensive perimeter. You join the men who are on guard duty and are rather enjoying their company when an incredibly large lion approaches the village perimeter. All the guards begin chanting, making loud and abrasive sounds coupled with wild gestures.
NO SKILL: You can only assume this has something to do with the lion and the safety of the village, so you join the chant as well. The lion wanders away from the village leaving everyone unharmed. (S1)
SCHOLARSHIP: You begin to chant along with the others but then realize the ridiculousness of the situation. The guards’ actions, which they presume to be of magical benefit to ward off the lion, only annoy the creature into leaving. You stop participating in the “ritual” and are soon noticed by one of the guards who reports you to the nearby commander. The commander immediately has you thrown outside the perimeter to face the lion alone. (Go to paragraph 1201)
