What are "Civilization Characteristics"?To me:
- Tech to research
- Improvements (buidlings or such)
- Resource management and trading (giving diplomatic options)
- Culture
- Wonders
- More than 1 city
...are civ characteristics. Without those, the game would be like a wargame or maybe area control game. Simply put, the ability to shape your own civ/country/town into your own characteristics, different with other players, is what drew me into civ genre, and Clash of Cultures have all of those.
But maybe some people like historical relation with the game. The lack of Leonardo Da Vinci or Julius Caesar might be the one that put you off? I too was feeling a little let down with the "generic" approach of CoC, but only a minor. It won't be a deal breaker for me.
