One rule we misunderstood (but which is clarified in the forums by the designer) is that the largest network end-game bonus is scored by choosing your best network, which is the one where you have the most offices (not necessarily the same as the one with the most cities). You then multiply the number of OFFICES you have in the network (not cities) by your key value.
The only other clarification I can think of is: a new bonus marker can be placed along any trade route as long as a) the route is empty, b) there's not already a bonus marker there, and c) there's at least one EMPTY office in a city adjoining the route.
Have fun -- it's a great game.

Ahhh, thanks for both of those tips, I missed these specifics:
"You then multiply the number of OFFICES you have in the network (not cities) by your key value."
"...and c) there's at least one EMPTY office in a city adjoining the route."
Argh. This seems like it will be a neat game once I get a game or two under my belt. Until then the meta-game will be, "see if you can play without forgetting a rule at some point."
So, Example B?
LARGEST OFFICE NETWORK
vs. Largest network(confused with cities) of offices.
