Last week, we did the first sneak preview for Tzolkin and Goblins Inc.. Today is the first preview for Dungeon Lords: Festival Season.

There is so much extra cool stuff in this expansion, I wasnt sure where to start, but I have settled on giving some more details of the new adventurer - The Bard.

The Bard begins the game as a fighter, but then after a few levels gets bored and turns into a thief before finally becoming a druid. No, wait a minute, thats 1st Edition D&D. Where was I?

In fact, the bard is the opposite of the warrior. Whenever you recruit a bard, they like to hang around at the back of the party where it is nice and safe.

The bards special ability is represented by the number of lute symbols on the adventurer, which ranges from 1 to 3. At the start of each combat round, this ability is processed before anything else, and for each lute symbol showing, you put a counter above a party member, starting at the front.

So, for example, if you have a bard with 2 lutes, then the first two adventureres in your party will have a counter over them.

If you have 2 bards, then their effect is handled individually. So, in the example above, if you also had a bard with 1 lute symbol, this would mean that the first party member would have 2 counters on him.

The counter is effectively a shield buff, and protects against damage. When a party member with one of these counters is dealt damage, the counter is removed first - each counter preventing one point of damage.

Bards work most effectively in a full party. When someone dies, their songs of encouragement don't have the same effect.

"la la la. And the heroic adventurers bravely entered the dungeon"
"Erm.... Sarah... Dave's just been eaten by a Troll"
"la la la...."

For each missing party member, each bard has 1 lute less.

So, in our example above with 2 bards, once one party member is no longer there, the weaker bard has no effect, and the other bard just has 1 lute.

This will make more sense when the rulebook is printed and there will be a nice graphical example

That covers bards. Before I go though, I have to share with you this pic as it is so cute....

Later this week - The first of the Galaxy Trucker: Another Big Expanion previews...
