Depends on the the group and the dynamics. My son is 11 now, so the game may well have gone differently. But it also depends on how the players view their respective finishes. Some players take the position that if you aren't first then you lose while other feel that 3rd place is better than 4th. Your particular view may well determine if you take the card or not. In my wife's case, she finished 3rd, while taking the card would have guaranteed a last place finish so I don't know that she would take it. Me? I probably would take the card now and there is a good chance I would have taken it 5 years ago, especially if it is a one round game.
