I look at this issue from an entirely different perspective. If all the gods were of equal power, what would that fun be. By having characters of different relative power, it just create different challenges. Some games will be harder than others. Different combinations will result in the need for different tactics. To me, that is the beauty of this type of game. The same is true for Shadows over Camelot as well. Some knights were clearly more powerful than others, but that kept the game fresh. For these reasons we do not select characters (except maybe the first time), but draw randomly. I would never consider excluding Heimdall due to his weakness, but rather relish the challenge of winning with him along.
