Saint Petersburg and Niagara Coming Soon
One of the side effects of reporting about Reiner Knizia's Qin earlier this week was learning more about developer Elately and what they're working on. Their two current projects are 2004 Spiel des Jahres nominee Saint Petersburg and 2005 Spiel des Jahres winner Niagara. The beta of Saint Petersburg will be playable next week at Essen, and they're hoping for a November release. Niagara isn't far behind, with an expected release of December.
Neuroshima Hex! to Get New Armies
Developer Big Daddy's Creations has told us that their digital versions of Neuroshima Hex! are about to get bigger. Android users can expect the Neojungle and New York armies, and iOS users can expect the Steel Police army. BDC is awaiting approval for the Steel Police update from Apple, and then both updates will release simultaneously. They are targeting next week, but we'll let you know when the updates are scheduled to arrive.
Eclipse...No News is Good News
Ever since Big Daddy's Creations announced they were working on an iOS version of Eclipse back in September of 2011, they've been pretty mum about it. Other than some UI mock-ups in March, we haven't heard much on the progress with the app. Today they mentioned to us that they are in the middle of development and, as such, it is difficult to determine how much they have accomplished and how much work is left to do. They estimate 50/50, but mention that the pace of development is good. So, be patient and know they're still working on it!
Carcassonne Releasing for Windows Phone
Developer Exozet has announced that the Windows Phone version of Carcassonne will release on October 24. Exozet is the developer of the Android version of Carcassonne (the iOS version was developed by The Coding Monkeys), so it's safe to assume the Windows Phone version will be similar.
WordSmack Coming Soon
Electronic Arts announced that their upcoming asynchronous word game, WordSmack is available on the Canadian App Store. Companies will occasionally release apps on the Canadian App Store to work out the kinks with online components and test their servers before releasing the app worldwide, so we should be seeing it in the US soon. WordSmack is a 2-player game (not sure if there is a single-player component or not) similar to Mastermind, but with 5-letter words. WordSmack will be free to play with an ad supported version, or a paid version that removes the ads. Both SlideToPlay and PocketGamer have had hands-on with the game, and both have had good things to say. We'll let you know when it releases in the rest of the world.
Codito Talks Through the Ages
After screenshots of the upcoming version of Vladda Chvatil's Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization were posted many people noticed that all the screenshots were from an iPad resolution. This led many to wonder if the app would be iPad only, or Universal. Today, Codito confirmed that the app will indeed by a Universal app. Maybe not at launch, but a Universal app is definitely in the works. Good news!
Mathfeud Coming in October
Developer We Got Pixels is releasing an asynchronous multiplayer math game for iOS iPhone called Mathfeud. The game seems simple enough: you have 2 minutes to solve math equations using numbers in a grid. When you're 2 minutes are up, your opponent does the same. The winner is the one with the highest cumulative score after three rounds. The game will offer matching through Facebook, Twitter, or their own servers (they call it a Mathfeud username). Game Center isn't mentioned, but they do stress that Facebook and Twitter are optional. Expect it to hit the App Store this October.
