I think my experience was in large part driven by a Sycophant hitting the table right after I got my Clay Oven.
It felt incredible arbitrary and impossible to deal with. I have no idea how good Sycophant is, but it effectively cost me 1 action per Harvest, which prevented me from ever Sowing a Wheat field (until Round like... 8).

OK. That's a bit rough when you've based your strategy around baking. Any potential counter to that would depend entirely on specific Occupations or Minor Improvements. Now, Sycophant is in the I (Interactive) deck. That deck is the only one containing cards that let you affect other players directly like that and I usually would not use it with new players.

Dungeon Lords looks like it'll be incredibly punishing, but when you finally capture those damn Adventurers, ESPECIALLY the Paladin, I expect that you get this feeling of "that was awesome!
Am I wrong?
True enough. Nailing those adventurers while losing only one measly section of tunnel does feel great. But it requires a very fine balance to pull off.
