Get some sort of food engine, build a room and grow your family.Don't be too focused on your goal, if there are two rounds worth of accumulation (esp reed or wood in early game to help you build your room) think about postponing what you are doing and grab them.
Don't try and play too many cards if playing the full version, you will never utilise them all, try and play a few that work in combination
