We played our second game on October 11th.

Start of the Game

Mission Brief: C0dA-403 (Yong Disease - Red) can no longer be cured
Received: Quarantine Specialist character card
Received: Quarantine markers
Received: Relationship stickers
Rivals: Shu Nay Nay (Quarantine Specialist) & Kira (Dispatcher)
Coworkers: Shu Nay Nay (Quarantine Specialist) & South Virus (Researcher)

Objectives: Discover cures to the 3 normal diseases

Players & Characters

Yong: Kira (Dispatcher)
Min: Shu Nay Nay (Quarantine Specialist)
Nam: South Virus (Researcher)

Funded Event Cards (2 cards)

• Quiet Night
• Government Grant

Major Events

Had a lucky hand from the beginning, where I(Researcher) started out with a hand of 3 Blue cards and Kira(Dispatcher) had a hand of 2 Blue cards. So, I just passed the two blue cards I had to Kira(Dispatcher) and cured the Nam Virus(Blue) right from the beginning.

[Cured] Nam Virus (Blue)
Shu Nay Nay(Quarantine Specialist) began most of her turns placing Quarantine markers on red cities and cities close to outbreak. So, we were basically able to prevent all cities from an outbreak.

[Cured] Min Virus (Black)
[Eradicated] Nam Virus (Blue)
I was sitting on Santiago with three disease cubes. Right before my turn, Santiago comes up on the Infection deck. If Shu Nay Nay(Quarantine Specialist) had not placed a Quarantine marker on that city the previous turn, I would have received a scar. Whew!!

[Cured] Princess Disease (Yellow)
WIN

End of the Game

Result: WIN!
Win Bonus: At the start of the game of March, add 1 quarantine marker anywhere on the board.
Overall, it was a pretty easy game since we started off with only 2 diseases to cure. Although Yong Disease(Red) cannot be cured, it was easy to contain it thanks to Shu Nay Nay(Quarantine Specialist)’s special abilities. But since we won twice in a row, we’ll get 0 funding event cards on March. It will be interesting to see how that will turn out.

Diseases
2 Cured: Princess Disease (Yellow), Min Virus (Black)
1 Eradicated: Nam Virus (Blue)
1 Incurable: Yong Virus (Red)

Epidemics & Outbreaks
3 Epidemics
0 Outbreaks

Game End Upgrades
Positive Mutation: Common Structure on Nam Virus (Blue) - no longer need to be in research station to Discover Cure for this diseases
Character Upgrades: Pilot on Kira (Dispatcher) - does not discard a card when taking Direct Flight

Snickering.

I find the iOS version much better for solo play as with the hardcopy I keep forgetting bits of upkeep and it is a pain to set up and take down. I can probably get 2 or 3 iOS games in in the time it takes for one hardcopy game.

Having said that I would play non solo f2f given the chance

Thanks for the write up! There has been such little released about the game that the reviews of fellow BGG members is what I'm living off of at the moment. Question, did you get your game at Essen? Or did you get it today at an FLGS?

Thanks! Yes I got it at essen.

I agree!

One question. When I bought Onirim it came with a small flier announcing the upcoming Sylvion and Castellion in the Oniverse series. Is there any kind of flier inside the Castellion's box?

Has the same flyer inside. Reliably informed that at least two more oniverse games ar in the works ;)

A bit confused as to whether I actually received the new edition, though...

;)

I'm interested on whether you did or not get the new version, as this is exactly why I came to this thread. I am on the verge of ordering the game from Board Game Bliss. I contacted them and they told me (via email) that it was the new version, but I am not convinced. I'm a bit confused because I can't find the game anywhere on Z-man's website, which is the version BGB claims to have.

I think you can tell easily if it is the new version. I watched Rahdo's video review and it is obvious that the player boards are flimsy, floppy paper and not cardboard at all. And somebody in another thread posted a picture of the new boards and they looked like sturdy cardboard.

It would be great if you would let me know if you did, in fact, get the new version. Also, what does it say on the box? Anything about edition?

Thanks, Roger

Hi Roger,

Unfortunately, the box I received does not appear to have any clear indicators as to whether or not the edition is, in fact, the new edition. Here's images of various sides of the box and the box cover--which all pretty much just have the title and the name of the author, but nothing that concretely states whether or not the edition is the new one:

In fact, there are a bunch of different years on the front cover, some of which say 2011 and some of which say 2012, which would seem to suggest this is an older edition:

Now, I heard a rumor that if you zoom in on the monk's cart on the cover, there are scratchings on the cart that provide a clue as to whether or not you have the new edition:

"MMXV"? I don't even know what that means. I mean, I ordered the English-language version, and the rules and all of the writing on the cards is in English, but I've never heard of the word "mmxv." Then again, the title of the game is in Latin, so maybe that's a Latin word? Or maybe it is some kind of cipher? I don't know why Z-Man games thought it was a good idea to make the box so ambiguous as to whether or not one is buying the new edition or the old edition, where the only clue is some scratchings on the side of a cart that require an advanced degree in cryptology to decipher.

Sorry I can't be of more help. The components in the box met my specifications, and I don't have any complaints, but I suppose people may be of different minds about that. I've heard that the components are "sturdy" cardboard, but I just pulled out one of the player mats and discovered that I can still bend it in half if I try--and I don't even work out. How does that even qualify as "sturdy"?

I think MMXV means just 2015 of Roman numeral. M means 1000, X is 10, and V is 5. Therefore, the scratch is the mark of new edition.

When starting a game, all characters start together at any one research station.

one question about Charcaters,as Italian rulebook is not very clear about that:

we're going to play Legacy 2p but controlling 2 characters each (as we play regular Pnademic), so only 1 character will be left in the box at the beginning of the 1st game.

- can you confirm that in future games we can choose to use the "left-in-the-box" character instead of one we'll have used on the 1st game?

- or that rule mean that you can simply switch a character from you and your friend?

thanks!

A busy week (so far) for Fenland Gamers

It's been a busy week for Fenland Gamers. We met on Saturday and had a record attendance for our small group; Six of us making the session (with four members unable to attend). Unbeknownst to us, who were having fun, Daniel, a teacher from the school that we meet at, who I had invited before, also turned up, but unfortunately had forgotten his swipe card to get in and so was unable to attend. He could just see us through the window playing games. I spoke with him on Monday and he said it was like being a neglected child at Christmas looking though the window at everyone opening presents and having fun, while he was left out in the cold having to survey the scene from a distance! I made sure Daniel had my contact details so that would not happen again. He mentioned to me that, when he later saw the Facebook photos of the games we had played, he recognised Carcassonne as a game that his friend in Portugal was into (See: Saturday Session with Six People and Six Games).

On Sunday, I went to my Dad's for a session of 2-player games. We started with Mr. Jack. This is a really good 2-player game. My Dad likes working things out and he really enjoyed the brain workout the game gave him. I played the detective during the first game and due to some elementary mistakes by Dad (he was learning the game, after all), I was easily able to narrow down who Jack was and make my accusation, winning the game. We then swapped sides and I played Jack. I bluffed most of the game that Lestrade was Jack, but I had not realised that on the very first turn of the game, detective Dad had used Holmes to collect Lestrade's Alibi card! At turn 8 I thought I had the win in the bag, thinking that Dad would obviously accuse Lestrade of being Jack, instead moved Goodley onto Smith and made the accusation - Dad won the game, revealing that he held Lestrade's Alibi card all along!

After this we chose to play Carcassonne, which Dad had already played at the Saturday session the day before, but this time I introduced him to the farming rules, which he grasped well... in fact, too well, as he won the game by 1 point!

On Monday evening, Darren and I met up to finish what we'd started. That is, the second round of The Battle of Abbeville. This is a Memoir '44: Breakthrough scenario. The last game I was playing as the Allies but this time I had to play as the Axis.

This game was a very, very close battle. Both the Axis and the Allies had secured 9 medal objectives, with only 1 needed for the win. Unfortunately, for me, it was the Allies that secured victory, giving Darren his second Breakthrough win!

To finish the night off, we pulled out Hive. Darren had not played before. It was a fairly even matchup, the first game being a teaching game, but after that it was quite plain sailing for Darren. We also added Hive: The Pillbug to our final couple of games.

Wednesday evening was the second Wednesday of the month; our main group session. We had an attendance of seven - one more than Saturday's attendance (if you discount the Daniel incident). However, I was very sad that Matt, who was feeling quite unwell, had to return home before he even had a chance to play games - so I suppose you could say it was just like the Daniel incident, with seven turning up to play games, but only six actually playing them!

We split into two groups of three each for this session. I ran a game of Ivor the Engine (Me (Jonathan), Katie and Jo), while the other group (Darren, Gav and Debbie) played Imperial Settlers.

Ivor the Engine is quite a light game. I have played it once before, but I really think it needs players that a familiar with all the rules before it really shines. It's a perfect family game though and it's even better if you are familiar with the TV show itself, which those of us who are of a certain age are ;)

I had one or two rules discrepancies which I need to check on BGG, but the game played smoothly and was over quite quickly.

Imperial Settlers, looked quite interesting. I didn't get to play the game, but did take a couple of opportunity's to take the blog photos.

I believe Darren won the Imperial Settlers game with a Barbarian hoard; something like that, anyway!

After we finished Ivor the Engine, and as the Imperial Settlers game was still going on, we played a game of Brew Crafters: The Travel Card Game. Katie achieving the honour of being the best brewery in the town!

Finally, we all got together to play the last game of the session. That game was Camel Up which Gav had brought along. This game was a blast. I really liked the mechanisms being used and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I hope to get to play this again.

Another excellent session, although Matt was sorely missed. Many thanks to those that attended. Fenland Gamers is going from strength to strength.

Thread: Poseidon:: Rules:: Calculating income question

Consider this image:

Orange has 2 2-ships and is about to score.

My opponent and I had two different interpretations on how to score.

I say they're boats so you need to trace a single contiguous line of up to 4 hexes. Find the highest scoring path then calculate income.

He says that he can score any hex within a 4-hex radius of the home port. This would mean that he can add the orange high culture marker on p1 and all temples within a 4-hex radius.

In the heat of the moment I couldn't find anything in the rules that clarifies which interpretation is correct. Can you help set us straight?

Hey there,

Quick question that someone who won a February game can probably answer best (i'll put the question in spoilers just to be save):
[o]There is a Legacy card drawn after the first game of February which you get to scratch open just when you won. So this we left untouched as we lost, but below that there where two event cards and we where wondering if they were part of the reward that you scratch open for the 2nd try in February or if we could already add them for the 2nd February game?
I kind of asume we should get those already because there is no "STOP drawing" card in between, but just wanted to clarify in case there is information in the scratched part of the reward card that clarifies it. [/o]

Dilluvia Project and Brick Party

by Surya Van Lierde is pure Eurosnoot and proud of it!

Dilluvia Project
tl;dr: very solid

Since a couple of years any title put out by Spielworxx automatically ends up on my 'want to play' list, even though some of their games have been... less than stellar. But this game was right up my alley again. A good hefty euro with not too much luck and interesting decisions. OK, it's worker placement yet again, but you won't hear me complaining about that. It's also a building game with resources yet again. In fact, this game brings very little new elements to the table. And unlike La Granja, which brought together very recognizable mechanisms in an interesting way, this game feels much more generic. Go to some place and get some resources or tiles or money, and use those to build and score points. But again this game proves you don't need to do anything new as long as you do it well.

Initial rating: 7.5/10
BGG scale: 7/10

Brick Party
tl;dr: quite fun

I love real time puzzling games. Like Galaxy Trucker or Ubongo. Good fun. So when you add Lego pieces to the mix, it can only get better. Well, not really, but it doesn't hurt it's appeal. So yes, I did enjoy this game, but the amount of people willing to play games like this is limited. So I decided against acquiring it after seeing the €18 price tag. But if I did own it, I wouldn't get rid of it. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table other than the studs on the pieces and the cards that add different challenges to the game (like building blindfolded) are a nice touch.

Initial rating: 6.2
BGG scale: 6/10

Also, consider planting strong fountains on the very first spot. Keeping hedgehogs in hand is also quite useful.
