I think the map balanced vp is mainly the way they want to go though... for NDA reasons I can't discuss. If you had my knowledge then the map balanced vp actually does make more sense than making little balance tweaks.
For instance we had a lengthy discussion about nerfing Darklings and we all discussed the vp value of the priest digging. There seemed to be an agreement that in most games it's pretty good and it works well across most of the maps. There also seemed to be agreement that reducing Darklings priest digging to 1vp instead of 2vp was too much of a nerf.
