Ok. We HAVE to be playing wrong. Our first game lasted a mere 25 minutes. We both felt like we did next to nothing.
If all you do is pick cards that get you something, like a railcar or a conductor, yeah, it would be probably that short. OTOH, if you pick forward-going options, like getting coins or filling contracts (or filling contracts that get you coins), the game would be a lot more interesting.
Woof, I guess neither of you were playing much with the trains.
Edit: what was your score in this 25-minute game?
My score was like 130ish her score was 110ish.
I felt taking a card to build my track and then two cards to push the train was too expensive (1/6 of my total game turns). If I could choose which column to start feeding coins, or if I had to feed the coins only left to right, instead of having to completely fill the first column, I would have felt more options. The combos were there, but it was really annoying to me only taking three turns per round and watching all those cards get dumped into the discard pile. I think we are going to house rule the game next time we try it to "each player takes 4 cards".
I agree that building your track is helpful, but it's so expensive to do so and if I understand it correctly, you only do it 3 times per game.
She had like 5 train cards on her track, I had one.
