I think the actual best way to handle this, is to put all the new rules somewhere other than the rulebook, labeled so you know where they belong.Then before each game, you simply scan over the new rules and make sure you didn't forget everything.
Since I was playing the game with intention to reset at the end, I simply had all the new rule stickers in a baggy, and was easily able to reference any new rule as needed. Better would probably be to put out a piece of paper, with a minor rules summary, i.e. "Relationships:" and then a real-quick summary of how that rule works.
