Thread: Campaign Manager 2008:: General:: Great game, wrong year

I like this game (and the authors' other campaign game, 1960: The Making of the President"). Adds some nice twists, shortens the game time, and has other great features as other reviewers have mentioned when compared with 1960 (though 1960 still wins in my opinion). My main complaint with 2008: this is the wrong year for this game. In an interview, the authors specifically picked 1960 for the other game because it was a close election and because it was not too recent (they did not want to do 2000 because they apparently felt that this would be painful since it was fresh--I guess they are not Republicans?). Anyway, 2008 was not a close election at all. If I were the authors, I would have selected 2000 (you wouldn't have to do the whole Supreme Court stuff to make it work), 1976, 1948, or some other close, relatively-recent election. These were far more interesting elections because it could have gone either way. While 2008 wasn't as big a landslide as some other elections, I think it adds to the game if it were really close in real life. (Who would want to be Mondale in a Campaign Manager 1984 game? Would the object be to see if you could win two states instead of one?)

Anyway, not to beat a dead horse. My main reason for posting is to encourage the authors to release another version of this game based upon one of the other, closer elections I listed above. I was hoping that with a name like "Campaing Manager 2008" instead of simply "Campaign Manager" that the authors were perhaps thinking of doing this?

Here's hoping that another release comes out with a more interesting election!
