Thread: Wars of the Roses: Lancaster vs. York:: Rules:: Number of cards to draw in a 2-player game

Played this last night for the first time, using the official 2-player variant. We enjoyed it very much, but felt that by turn 5 there was so much going on on the board that we were overwhelmed with decisions and not really sure that any of them would make too much difference.

We wondered if perhaps we had read the rules about card draw wrong for 2 players, but, on these forums Peter Hawes seems to contradict himself. For example, in one thread he says:

"in a 2 player game and will pick up 11 cards during the game"

but in another...

"In a Two Player Game.
Turn 1 the order is Player: 1,2,2,1,1,2,2,1,1,2,2,1 (12 cards drawn)
Turns 2-5 " " " Player: 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2 ( 8 cards drawn)"

...so 22 cards.

Seems to me that the former would result in a much tighter start to the game, and allow one to focus on building support from a limited start. My feeling is that it would eliminate our feeling of "too much to deal with" (or that could just be us!).

The rulebook isn't clear on this, only referring to "until the cards run out" or something similar, I think, and not in the section on the 2 player variant.

Anybody out there (Peter, even?) with a definitive answer on whether it's 11 or 22?

Thanks!
