OK.....Good to know. I'm going to try again and post my results. Even with 2 cheats (or at least 2....there may be others!) I didn't come close to victory. Of course, I was so anxious to get Jenny off the island I didn't even build a shelter.↧

It's pricey, but I'd say Food Chain Magnate is very good with 2. Also Reef Encounter (for something more old school). If you want another Rosenberg, Luoyang is good with 2.

If the geodens colonize a planet prior to the planetary institute (let’s say a white planet), do they gain 3 knowledge if they colonize another white after building the planetary institute?↧

Haha no I am not close to worrying about difficulty yet but that is a good idea in the future. I just wanted to confirm as it is implied by there but being anything saying they use it but not explicitly said that I can find. Thanks for confirming, I feel better now as that was the last remaining piece of the rules I wasn't positive I was getting right.↧

These mats are pretty thick. I think they are more susceptible to differential effects across the cross section of board (one face expanding or contracting differently).

Thread: Pandemic Legacy: Season 2:: General:: Another do I have to play Season 1 topic
Hi, I'm sure this forum has been flooded with this question. But I did a cursory search, skimmed the thread topics (lightly to avoid any possible spoilers) AND I did google check the first page of results to my question.
Okay, that said I got Season 1 last year and played it with a gaming partner and I didn't care for it too much. Mainly because I prefer Pandemic with In the Lab much more over base Pandemic.
We didn't end up getting past March or so because I just didn't enjoy the game.
I don't want to play S1. That said, I have heard tremendous things about S2, and watched the setup video and it sounds pretty amazing.
I'm assuming that there isn't enough in S1 to warrant playing through the campaign just for a few story nods in my case. Is there anything to the contrary that I should be aware of before purchasing S2? Thanks.

Thanks Adam! I would like to try it that way as well, but I really enjoy the flexibility the game allows for an all at one time experience, or a spaced out experience. My time playing each day wasn't very long, which was good because I'm rather busy this time of year and to fit a nice deep game in is a treat!↧

[o]I have a question about Searching. How can you miss and reach Cold Trail? The rules say:
If a search party reaches the target of its search, they find it!
We took that to mean if one of us, as the search party, moved the search marker onto the target, we found the target. However, if an Epidemic caused the search marker to reach the target, we failed.[/o]

Yeah, that part was very poorly written.

One more thing about drafting, and then back to lurking. Here is why I don't really care about it too much:Presume 4-player, everybody's got 7/7, right? So, the first ock and minor you keep you would have had anyway with a draftless deal. The rest of your cards, you have to give up at least three each. So much for any good combos you got dealt, unless you get a little lucky and it comes back around. Meanwhile, you have to remember what those six cards of each type were. Then you have to remember what your RHO gave you, and then the next guy's, and the next. I've just ODed on what all's ripping around the table. What did I pass away again? Crap, what do I suppose my LHO kept out of that? And the other guys? Oh, hell, so much for that combo, what about this one? Will this card come around again, do I think? Oh, no, what if LHO kept this, now I can't let him have that even though I have no use for it. Damn! I'll just go for easy button-grabbing minors. Wait, I'm in position four, am I even going to get to play an ock until Round 3? What did I pass again? Wait, who did this card originate from? Ahhhhhhhhhh!
This is why I prefer deal X, drop X-7. It's all right there for me to fiddle with, who cares what everybody else has? :p

Everything in the game mechanics says the mandatory objective is the one you should choose if you must choose between the two.
In the game mechanics, perhaps. But the theme hints pretty strongly that finding the vaccine is important and urgent. It's a thematic game; you're not handed on a plate complete information about what, mechanically, you have to do.
That it's a game where information is routinely hidden from the players is self-evident from the moment you open the box and see all the sealed doors and packages. How did you choose, for example, which upgrades to apply at the end of your first game in January? On the assumption Season One would continue exactly as it had started out and what was useful now would be useful indefinitely? Surely not!
But the game gives you no way of knowing that at the time when the choice has to be made.
As I say, there are plenty of strong thematic hints. Certainly enough that we worked it out.
There was also adequate warning that City Zero was going to turn out to be important at some stage: anticipating this, we put a bit of extra effort into protecting. When the time came, panic was low and we could get in and out easily.

Der Schwarm even sounds cool in English.
Ivits sounds as dull as dish water.

Geoff, you mention the luck and hassle of hoping a combo card comes back to you when pass a pack. However, for really experienced players (not me!), minimizing this risk and maximizing the chance at the combo is not luck but a strategic element in the draft. If cards A through G are ranked in power and if A and C combo well and as do B and E, a savvy player may pass on taking card A knowing that card C is unlikely to return. Instead, she or he will grab card B, knowing there is a good chance that E will return for the combo.
Alternatively, if have a pack of seven cards and see that cards F and G combo very well, and I see that F is gone when I get the pack a second time, I may well pick G just to prevent the player who took F from potentially getting a combo.
It's this reason that I find the draft reports at Play-Agricola fascinating: http://play-agricola.com/forums/index.php?board=106.0 Most people on the site play draft 9, meaning that there are 9 cards to choose from in each pack, with two from each pack going unchosen. That also raises the possibilities for combos and strategies to get / deny combos.
For me personally, I don't draft because I play casually rather than competitively, but I 100% agree with others in this thread that drafting takes the game to another level.

I wrote a simple scoring helper web page 10 years ago (it looks like it) when the first edition of the game was released. It's simple and works well enough. My only suggestion is don't overuse it early and slow the game down. Best used on the last couple turns.
