I think the “inelegant” in the review was referring to the fact that you need to count the pieces of yours and of your opponent on the board to check if you can play a flare or not. And sometimes count again. This can be breaking the rhythm of the game.

I have found a solution for that: if both players arrange their pieces in two rows right in front of each other it’s easier to see the difference of pieces on the board. The solves half of the counting. :-)
You need to be tidy though, and place each destroyed piece back to its place.

Is there anyone sure about this card? :(

Ok I will try to clarify it for you. When we proofed rulebook, Ignacy removed the effect that +1 token acts as a source if there is no corresponding source on the tile. But to keep the exact same effect of the new flock card, this one should have been reworded for the token to act as a source if there is no corresponding source but this works onĺy for this specific card. Is the setup photo you shared from the card comes from the last edition? From what I remember it was not worded this way on the last card...

This is the card of Z-man! :D

If it's not for you, fine. But don't attempt to classify it as pointless destruction. They accomplished some experiences that would only be possible doing it this way.

You're trying to present it like it's some objective truth, while it entirely depends on the end user whether you feel anything or not. For some people it's pointless destruction of their money, for others it's "experience". It's 100% subjective.

It isn't "pointless," though. Have you played the game yet? We have specific things in mind when we say that. Ripping a card is pointless. But there are other things that happen that alter the game components that change the experience -- it would be a different experience if they hadn't done.

Whether someone likes the experience is a matter of taste. But objectively speaking, they created a different game experience with some of the ways that game components are altered.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to post the same question to the Giai page and see if responses are the same or the exact opposite. It is good to know that not EVERYONE thinks new is automatically better.

I still like TM better. I think GP is bloated and over-complicated for no good reason. That said, I do really like SOME of the ideas in GP. A TM expansion that implements a few of the ideas from GP could make TM the perfect game.

I am one of those who prefers GP. While for some people TM offers enough choice, I more often than not feel too much is decided by initial faction choice and dwelling placement and that my choices are often obvious or pre ordained. GP with its tech tree and more open board mean I don't get this feeling and instead feel much more responsible for my showing in a game. My friend who has only played TM a handful of times and GP once has said even after a handful of plays he could predict the winner in TM after setup. The same certainly can't be said of GP.

Well, actually there are some polls over there that do seem to show a HUGE number of people strongly prefer the Gaia Project. I guess I need to make sure to give it a try but based on the description alone I'm not sure i'm going to like it as much.

I like the tight maps of TM and the overall complexity of the game feels fine to me as it is. Not sure how I'll like the special powers. A lot of times those just make games that much harder to track what opponents can do and make the game feel murkier to me.

So, what are the changes exactly? Google's translation is not so clear.

I will receive the new version in German shortly from a math trade and I'd like to find out what rule set is the best. The trend has been to water down games for many years, so I fear you might be right.

Well do realize that was only shared in the Gaia Project forum thus far. If it was also posted to Terra Mystica I'd be curious to see how things shake out. (I'm still pretty convinced Gaia Project will win by a healthy margin, but I don't think it would be the crazy margin it is at right now). Plus you have to take into account that poll is only capturing BGG users who happened to have already tried Gaia Project. Like most games I suspect the earliest adopters are those most drawn to it and likely to enjoy it more than others. Essentially what I'm saying is just realize that I think that poll probably is overstating how strong the preference for Gaia Project is among the "average" Terra Mystica fan.

Grant is much more succinct than I, but I think his comment is spot on. Based on what you just said I think you'll prefer Terra Mystica as well, but even despite my verbosity against Gaia Project it's still well worth a try to see how you like it. If you're a fan of Terra Mystica chances are you'll at least enjoy it, even if you don't wind up preferring it.

I posting this because I couldn't figure out how to delete the thread.

I've played this many times multiplayer, but decided to give it a go today with the solo rules.
I'm just past the second settlement phase and find I am swimming in resources. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm only taking two actions/turn (or three if I can use the prior after building) as stated, and following the solo rules for the neutral player. It could be that a few times I was forced to take 10 of something so I didn't lose the token from the game, but I still feel like it's too much availability.

I have no issues buying buildings, or getting resources from them, so is this game more about settlement placement for end-game scoring?
Just feels so different from the multiplayer games I have experienced that I'm almost feeling like it isn't fun because it seems there is less challenge. I would love to hear about other experiences.

I have tried Shetland a couple of times. The tempting of all those bonuses is very alluring but it takes a bit of effort to get them all and by then the game doesn't have all that many turns left in which to use them.

It also gives you little income and very few points. Not only that but to get the income you have to cover up squares that don't have negatives on them and if you want to get the beans resource you need even more tiles to go around it. On the other hand beans are not the best so maybe just covering them up is a better plan?

As you have pointed out though lots of the grey tiles work well on Shetland which leads me to think you want to get a longboat and go pillaging rather than whaling with this island?

As using this island is one of the few ways to get cutlery I have also tried comboing Shetland with the 4 action space that upgrades cutlery to necklaces. The concept of a necklace made out of cutlery is highly amusing but after all that effort I don't know if it was worth it.

" To begin a new serie, you have to complete this one with a final green card or use a card from another colour. "

The app disagrees with itself in this regard.

You usually *can* restart a series in the middle of the same color. What if you weren't playing with Intersection rules, and used 2 green cards then a crossroad card (or green, crossroad, green...)? The app would ask if you want a door. Let's say that, for some crazy reason, you did not. Then you add another green (or crossroad) card. It still gives you the option to then get the door. It ignores the first green card you played, and looks at cards 2, 3, and 4 as the series. This proves that, either way, the app has overlooked something. Either this should not be allowable (which seems silly) or the other instance should.

Can we get a more "official" declaration on whether the app handles the Intersection variant correctly? Based on my interpretations of the rules, the app failed to catch a scenario where the crossroad card should be allowable. As with the above scenario, green sun, green moon, crossroad sun, green moon should still be allowable under the Intersection variant because the game should look at cards 2, 3, and 4 to make the series, where card 3 is the second of that series.
