Does one charge forward initially or morph your forces and then advance?
After my limited plays, it seems that the key thing to do is to keep constant pressure on the opponent. If you stay on the offensive and keep your opponent maneuvering and morphing just to avoid losses, then you'll come out ahead. There doesn't seem to be much of a defensive strategy in the game, nor much incentive to wait before moving into position.
Also, the better guys often cost more than 1 energy to move, so it's usually best to move the basic guys into position, then morph them to create a threat. This drives me towards always pushing forward pretty steadily, rather than massing-and-then-attacking. Either way, I never plan on fighting with the basic units; they are cheap to move but lousy in combat.
Opening with a tank-morph is great if you have one. Advance one guy, and morph a different guy into the tank. On the following turn, attack with the tank and morph the guy who moved into something with range 2. You're now threatening in 2 places, which gives you options and limits your opponents' options. This costs 6 energy to do, but your opponent is probably burning energy in defense, and you are staying relatively safe.
However, I've only played a couple of times, and I'm not convinces there isn't a counter-attack strategy, where you conserve energy and just morph defensively, then take a series of turns in a row once your opponent is tapped out. Basic units can be dangerous if your opponent is out of energy to morph in defense!
