Especially in the games where 6 players with 1 saboteur being extremely outgunned. [Mathematically it is so simple to see it; every turn a saboteur gets, the gold diggers get 5 turns. Outgunned 5 to 1. I dare to bet that if you were to do a 10000 trial monte carlo, the saboteur is destined to lose most of the time.]
I can also see how so much of it is solved with Sabo 2 just by reading the rules.
I fully agree with your observations. The original game can be very unbalanced with a specific player's number. Nevertheless, the popularity of the game proves that even an unbalanced game can be very enjoyable.
One of the objectives for Saboteur 2 was to make the game more balanced. In the meantime, I've noted that most of the casual players (= not BGG expert gamers), which is the majority of the target group for this game, prefer the easy basic game above the expansion.
However, what turned me off and what I found offending for the publisher, the fans, the casual players and all customers was the provocative title of this thread: "Broken game".
