I would say that if they remade most of the expansions in new artwork and also prepared some new ones like Carcassonne: Expansion 10 – Under the Big Top, Carcassonne: The Fruit-Bearing Trees, Carcassonne: Die Märkte zu Leipzig, Carcassonne: Die Wachtürme the new version is actually doing great. Otherwise it would just die out after first two big expansions (based on sales).↧

I am quite new to the game and I use to start Gaia Projects on R1 and R2 which makes taking the 4 power tech rather useless. Should I reconsider my tactics?↧

In the rulebook:
All sources on the Island tile containing the token are covered with markers. If the token was acting as a source itself (i.e. there was no original food source on the tile), then it is covered also. If the token was not acting as a source, it is not covered, but has no effect until the original food source has the marker removed.

I'm not sure about this card. I have an example picture. Suppose I have a situation like this: After drawing the card from the Event deck.
What will happen? Which sources are covered?

If I'm understanding correctly, each tile would only fit at a particular radius out from the centre. That'd immediately complicate things as you'd need a separate tile stack for each radius, which not only destroys the simplicity of the game but removes the variety as the number of possible layouts of each concentric ring is small.
You could also get some bonus points for making circles allign on several tiles (but you don’t have to always connect them).

Well, not totally useless but if you move tour power tokens to the Gaia zone the first two turns...

Yes, I would say you're right. The rule H states :
Move from any haven or suply center to any other haven or supply center on the grid.
Even if you've not accessed the haven, it is on the grid, hence it respect all condition to go to.
(We had the same problem while it was connected by sea from [o]San Fransisco[/o] but we interprete that has long it is link, it is allowed.
Hope it help ! :D

To be clear, you can USE a card (for a direct/charter flight for example) and this is the same as discarding a card because of the hand limit. In this way, you aren't forced to discard the card, you get an action, and can still get cards into the discard pile for your Rival.↧

Well, I find the Science tech track works well for the Lantids.I am still not 100% sure: this is the best way to play the Lantids, but it looks like it works with quite a number of setups.

It won't die, if the new artwork was a black-white drawings Picasso style :-) Carcassonne is one of the most popular board games ever created and it deserves every bit of this popularity. I just don't think it was a good idea to create a new artwork, when you already had a perfect one. Never saw much complaints about old artwork besides tile color matching. Unless, they decided to milk this old cow a bit more, of course.

OK, I checked out Neuroshima on Coolstuff and I see what you mean: "Neuroshima Hex 3.0: Smart 2nd ed". Release date: May 16.
Looks strange, since they have the 'standard' Smart 3.0 in stock as well.
https://www.coolstuffinc.com/p/257230
If it means anything, the only thing I can think of is that Portal has said they're going to re-release all stand-alone armies (except DDM) with Hexpuzzles.
"Iron Gang Hexpuzzle Pack is an expansion for Neuroshima HEX! 3.0, that introduces new clever puzzles to solve on your hex board. It’s a perfect way to play some HEX on your own, or challenge your friends!
It includes a bonus army tile for Iron Gang Army Pack. More details soon on the official page!"
"And since we are talking about hexes, we are going to launch a new series of Hexpuzzles starting with Iron Gang for Neuroshima HEX! 3.0, providing a challenge for one player. What’s more, we are going to update our official Neuroshima HEX! 3.0 App, both on Android and iOS. You can expect many new features and bugs eradication – more details soon!

I'd definitely go for the Z-Man 3.0 - you'll get the official, pro-printed army. Totally worth it. Very cool Must-have army.

Thread: Gaia Project:: General:: Best way to teach to someone with no prior knowledge
So, I've thinking of the buying Gaia Project, but I'm slightly concerned my wife will have a mind fart and never play it passed the first 10 minutes. Has anyone developed a method for easing someone new in (especially someone who hasn't read the rulebook)?
To give some context, we have about 50 games and she'll happily play Agricola with all the cards, or Race for the Galaxy with all the expansions. So she's not a newb. But those games have either a inbuilt simple method or ramp up gradually. We have Twilight Struggle but never made it through a playthrough and I doubt we ever will. I don't want this to happen to Gaia Project (TS has the issue of understanding the cards which will always take time I guess).

I'd say only 4 and 5.I think, thematically, is the windfall resource put by the top half of the event card that attracts the predators in that area.
From a rule-lawery point of view, the text in the bottom half refers to a single tile (also using the "the" article to denote identity). This makes me think that event "has memory" of the tile it modified and only refers to it when it comes out again.

On the other hand, this is Ignacy's work and when in doubt always apply the nastiest alternative.

There is a basic setup for 2 players in a rulebook. You could also play solo at first to prepare for some tricky questions.Be sure to have a good understanding of:
-Gaiaforming
-5th level of tech tracks
-forming federations
before you try to explain that!
Good luck :)

I maintain the twitter account for Carcassonne Central and frequently hunt social media for photos of people playing their games. I would say in the last year at least as many, if not more photographs contain the new artwork.I appreciate that is a skewed-percentage of the entire population; but I find as many pictures being shared as I did 4-5years ago, so I think that's a good measure that the game is as popular as it's ever been; or at least a similar number of games are being played.
So the question is: how do you measure popularity of an edition? Sales or plays?
A cow has a limited amount of milk. If you milk a herd, the milk is unlimited. Cows come and go - to remain successful you need to milk the fresh younger cows entering the field, even more so when the old cows stop producing milk.
..that was weird analogy....
Games need to modernize to remain competitive and appear attractive to new players. No one is playing with the artwork from 1st edition Monopoly from 1903. There comes a point where a game needs to rebrand to remain attractive. Hans im Glueck made that decision after 14 years and is continuing to support development of the game and the series as a whole.
